Essential Oil Diary and Aromatic Dressing

I started this week with my energy levels below my baseline of sustainable activity. As a result, my work overtaxed me even when I was taking extra rests and taking it pretty easy. For the first few days of the week I was regularly feeling mentally exhausted and overwhelmed. I also felt quite low, partly as a result of the low energy and very possible complicated by a season change dip in mood that hits me every autumn.  Much of my essential oil use this week was aimed at helping me let go of a sense of being mentally overwhelmed and lifting my mood.

Here’s my essential oil use diary for last week:

Monday 8th October:

  • Oil pulling with peppermint and clove on getting up
  • Sniffing breathe from the bottle to clear congestion before meditation
  • Inspiration blend when starting work (see last week’s post for blend recipe)
  • Sniffing citrus bliss from the bottle in the afternoon when feeling low after my afternoon rest
  • Ylang ylang and citrus bliss* in the diffuser at bed time, feeling overworked and overwhelmed

What is aromatic dressing?

Aromatic dressing is basically anointing yourself with aromatic oil after a shower in a positive self-loving way. I know that’s something that just isn’t possible for many people with energy limiting chronic illness as taking a shower takes up too much energy.  Although I’d love to, I don’t have the energy to do it every time I shower but when I do, it’s a lovely experience. The whole aim is to give yourself an experience of indulgent pleasure, to show yourself the you are valuable and to show gratitude to your body.

I also aim to massage in the oil in a way that supports the lymphatic system, so I’m not just giving my spirit a gift, I’m gifting my physical body as well.

I start at the feet gently stroking upwards towards the heart as I lovingly massage the oil into my skin.

My current blend for aromatic dressing

I make up a blend in the following ratio and then mix 5 drops of it into 10ml of fractionated coconut oil. I’ve chosen oils that will help balance my hormones (menopause) along with a couple of oils purely for their sensuality:

  • 7 drops ylang ylang
  • 5 drops clary sage
  • 3 drops lemongrass
  • 2 drops whisper*
  • 2 drops cedarwood
  • 1 drop geranium
  • 1 drop vetiver
  • 1 drop serenity*

I love playing around with different oil blends, although generally its best to keep things simple and only blend 2 to 3 oils, I often can’t help but to add just one more to see what it will smell like. This blend has evolved over several months and I’m sure will keep on evolving.

A small favour: I’d be very grateful if you could rate this post using the stars below the related posts. Thank you!
